Q: I have a 6 week old monarch cat that seems to be in the late 4th or 5th instar stage. He isn't doing much eating - very still - but very much alive. What is the explanation for this? I've never had a caterpillar last this long in the larva stage.

Q: How can I know the caterpillar is a male or a female?
A: There is no way to tell if a caterpillar is a male or a female. You'll have to wait until your caterpillar turns into an adult butterfly. Male monarch butterflies have two black spots, one on each of their smaller wings. The females lack these two spots.
