This is the island Cres in the Adriatic sea. Over an area of about 20 sq. miles each and every Quercus has been stripped completely by millions of caterpillars, apparently of the Lymantria species. Most caterpillars die prematurely, others turned into pupae, but now we see near the pupae another life form emerge. Much thinner than the original hairy caterpillars, black and nude. Is this another instar of the Monarchs?
I have a lot of milkweed in my yard and many monarch larvae this year. But, I also have loads of milkweed larvae on several of the plants and I have located several adults recently as well. Are these predators of the monarch caterpillars? If so, what can I do to get rid of the milkweed larvae without hurting the monarch larvae?
I found 5 monarch caterpillars on my dill yesterday. The dill was mostly eaten. I moved them to showy milkweed that I specifically planted for them, thinking they would be happy there, yet they seem to have moved off the milkweed. Was it a mistake to move them? I thought they loved milkweed. Should I try to move them back to the dill?
I have a milkweed plant that is being eaten. The caterpillars are orange with black stripes, but they are very fuzzy. I don't think it is a monarch or a wooly bear. Do you have any suggestions?

We have started a butterfly way station and have enjoyed learning about the butterflies we find. We rear monarch larvae in our kitchen window. My kids love watching and caring for the larvae. My daughter brought in a leaf covered with milkweed tussock caterpillars. We know not to touch them. Can these be reared inside or do they need to over winter? (We are having a tough time finding out much about them.)Thanks!
