337During a recent visit to my son's first grade classroom, I heard his teacher explain that the red stuff (meconium) that is expelled when the butterfly emerges is the paint that colors its wings. That sounded strange to me but I can find no information that states the contrary. So can meconium be correctly classified as paint or is that term either a myth or a simplified way to define meconium for young children?
338When two of my caterpillars went into their chrysalis, there was a drop of clear green liquid that hung from the bottom of the chrysalis. I've done this for year and never saw this. What does this mean, and do you know if they will still come out as butterflies?
345We have a lot of chrysalis (9), 2 have hatched, the second monarch hatched and sat on my finger a long time and it stretched its wings, i could only see four legs, do the back longer legs come out later? It flew away.
382What does the inside of the chrysalis look like? Is it liquid? Is it green? I certainly do not want to open one and explore it myself.
