What are the spring dates when Monarch larva are available to purchase for raising in the classroom? We raised them last fall and it was wonderful! However, we may have to switch to spring this year.

If a child has a latex allergy, is that child being put at risk by way of the latex in the milkweed?
I am a second grade teacher and we have monarch caterpillars in the room. One of them partially formed its chrysalis. It hung in a J and then slowly throughout the day began to uncurl. Overnight it started to form a chrysalis, but only on the bottom 1/3. The rest of the caterpillar is still hanging. I'm not sure why this has happened and can't find anything anywhere that would help explain it. Of course, it has been of great interest to my class as they want to digest (I think they mean dissect) it and see if the remaining 2/3 will have a green chrysalis under the skin. Great question! I would love to show them, if I know what to expect and have guidance as to how to do it. Do you have any insight for me... person I could contact, personal knowledge, site to look online, etc.? Any help you could give us would be greatly appreciated! My class has been trying to answer the questions: Why it happened by researching in books (no luck) and contacting an expert. I thought these two ideas were great, but don't know where to go from here! Can you help us with these questions?
This question comes from a kindergarten class that is wondering about whether the butterfly is happy to change from being a caterpillar or sad? Any response would be really great.
My son's 6th grade class is raising a crop of Monarch butterflies. I just heard from my son that his teacher was holding onto the adult butterflies until enough had emerged for each classmate to let one go his or herself. Here's my question: Don't the adult butterflies have to be released within a day of emerging in order for them to thrive?
In class, we're raising monarchs. All the monarchs are in a pupa, but 1 table's larva is still in like the 3rd instar. How come it isn't developing?
We have raised painted lady butterflies form caterpillars in my preschool and am wondering whether Monarchs are reasonable to try and where to get a kit.. i am not interested in finding my own caterpillars and researching what to feed them and where to get it and all .. is there a kit ?
During a recent visit to my son's first grade classroom, I heard his teacher explain that the red stuff (meconium) that is expelled when the butterfly emerges is the paint that colors its wings. That sounded strange to me but I can find no information that states the contrary. So can meconium be correctly classified as paint or is that term either a myth or a simplified way to define meconium for young children?
